I did not know about Mozilla SOPS: apparently it lets you use a cloud Key Management Service (KMS) to manage and encrypt data, but store the encrypted data inside your git repository. This seems like a very nice combination, avoiding the complexity of deploying your own secret management, and also giving you the niceties of cloud KMS for team management.
