Make Patterns Pop Out of Heatmaps with Seriation

This blog post nicely illustrates something I want to try: seriation.

Instead of breaking a bunch of examples into groups (like unsupervised clustering), or assigning labels (classification), seriation aims to automatically place a series of items in a meaningful order (usually by optimising some metric, such as how close adjacent pairs are to each other).

I'm particularly interested in how seriation might be more amenable or understandable for the human analyst to be able to interpret and edit the results of the model.
